A series of topics have been initiated for investigation and research by existing volunteer members and these are ongoing.

Much of the material gathered in the first year or so of operation was  gathered into a book: GRINGLEY: A PORTRAIT. Click HERE for details at the time of publication. A few further copies have been ordered for stock and are available at £30 each.

Subsequently we prepared and installed a visual historical map at either end of the village, and copies of these too are available, as well

as a free pocket sized guide to local historical walks.

In 2014 we published an 80 page A5 book

about the fallen on the Gringley War

Memorial - this has been well received

and is still available at £5 per copy:

We have been active in local field walks on a late summer Ssunday morning 3 years in succession, and have organised other club outings and exhibitions:

Meetings are normally being held on the third Thursday of a month. The aim remains only to have an external speaker when they can help develop our approach to building up the club and its database.

While a lot can be achieved by volunteer members using their own resources, rapid and significant progress required some external funding. To this end, a successful application was made to the Heritage Lottery Fund, and the first two instalments of cash were paid into our Nationwide Bank Account. Some of the funds spent have been on assets to enable the club to function as it needs to, while other money has subsidised some of the above projects.

One of the HLF conditions was that the club employed a part-time Mentor to oversee our approach, and Mr Dieter Hopkin helped in 2011/3013. His formal involvement with the Club is now ended but he is available for informal advice.

Annual membership costs £10 for the first family member and £5 for the second, with children of the household then free. Part of the HLF grant requires us to raise some funds locally and the Membership Fee is an important component of this.

To read more about Membership, and to apply for Membership for 2014/2015 please download the form by clicking on the link below, or contact any one of the committee, or just turn up to any meeting.

Help from existing or potential members or just interested villagers is still keenly required. Especially dig out your old photos, postcards or press cuttings if they are available for loan and scanning by the Club volunteers into our database.
